Recirculation system: is it right for you?

When choosing the optimal extractor hood, the fundamental question arises as to which system to choose. Let’s explore the different advantages they both have to offer.

Recirculation systems

In recirculation mode, the air is cleaned and then fed back into the room. Using the extractor hood as this you just need to choose your hood and your are ready to go. For using the convertible hood in recirculation mode you need the fitting system to your chosen hood, which is explained below.

Recirculation hoods only

Exhaust systems

The extractor hoods filter the air through a grease filter and then route it outside through a duct. This requires a fresh air supply from outside.*

*This system is preinstalled on 98% of all hoods and doesn't require any extra steps while purchaing.

FAQ

Which extractor hood will fit my kitchen?

Siemens cooker hoods come in a variety of designs, so you will always find one that best suits your kitchen.

The first question is where the extractor hood should be installed - whether visible on the wall, almost invisible in a wall unit, in or on the ceiling or in the worktop.

Next, decide between an exhaust air or air recirculation system.

What types of extractor hoods are there?

The right thing for everyone:

  • Wall

Highlights on the wall: in box, glass and hipped roof designs or as sloping hoods.

  • Integrated

Ideal for small kitchens: flat screen, intermediate and substructure hoods, or fan modules.

  • Ceiling

A real eye-catcher: ceiling fans and island hoods sit directly above the cooking island.

  • Cooktop

Total space-saver: cooktop extractor hoods and extendable extractors are integrated into the hob.

What is the difference between recirculating air and exhaust air systems?

Recirculation and exhaust are two ways to remove odor-saturated air from the kitchen:

  • Exhaust air hoods expel kitchen fumes outside the building through a piping system, removing fats with a metal grease filter along the way
  • Circulating air hoods clean the air, first via a metal grease filter and then via an odour filter. The clean air is then fed back into the kitchen.

How do I install a range hood?

The installation and assembly of your cooker hood depends on the system used:

  • Access to the outside must be available or created for an exhaust air system. In addition, suitable exhaust air piping must be installed between the extractor hood and the outlet to the outside.
  • All you need for the recirculation system is a socket and the recirculation set, which also contains the activated carbon filter, among other things.

Which extractor hoods are particularly quiet?

The actual noise level of each model always depends on the installation, the pipes, and the filter.

Basically, the smaller the exhaust pipe, the louder it is. A diameter of 150mm is therefore recommended. With standard measurement methods, the Siemens extractor hoods with the lowest noise level come to 41dB in minimum normal operation and only 53dB in maximum.
